Can I safely fire the Norma 7.65 Arg 174gr Whitetail SP in my historic Argentine Model 1909 Mauser?

Yes, this ammunition is specifically loaded for standard firearms chambered in 7.65x53mm Argentine, including vintage Model 1891 and 1909 Mauser rifles. However, it must never be fired in incompatible chambers such as .308 Win, 7.62x54mmR, or standard 8x57mm IS.

What is the effective hunting range and performance expected from the 174-grain Soft Point projectile?

The 174-grain pointed soft point projectile is ballistically optimised for standard medium-game hunting ranges within 0 to 250 metres. At these distances, the bullet delivers controlled expansion, reliable mushrooming, and deep penetration on game like deer, feral pigs, and goats.

Are the brass cases on this Norma ammunition suitable for handloading after being fired?

Yes, each of the 20 rounds per box utilises precision-drawn, reloadable brass cases fitted with standard non-corrosive boxer primers. This makes them ideal for target shooters and hunters who wish to handload their historic 7.65x53mm brass.

What are the legal requirements for purchasing and possessing this ammunition in Australia?

As centreline rifle ammunition, purchase and possession in Australia require an appropriate State or Territory Firearms Licence, such as a Category B licence, along with a corresponding calibre endorsement or lawful reason. Please note that electrical safety regulations like 240V mains power or SAA/RCM certifications do not apply to this inert product.

7.65 Argentine Ammo - Norma 20177752

The Norma Whitetail 7.65x53mm Argentine 174 Grain Pointed Soft Point ammunition provides a dedicated factory-loaded solution for classic military and hunting platforms. Built with premium boxer-primed, reloadable brass cases and non-corrosive primers, it offers reliable ignition and consistent ballistic performance for field use and range shooting.

Key Features:

Controlled Terminal Expansion: The 174-grain pointed soft point bullet produces predictable expansion and high weight retention across standard hunting distances.
Factory-Loaded for Vintage Platforms: Provides newly manufactured, high-grade ammunition tailored specifically for Argentine Mauser actions without requiring custom handloading.
Reloadable Brass Cases: Uses precision-drawn, boxer-primed brass cases suitable for repeated reloading cycles.

Who is the Norma Whitetail 7.65 Argentine 174gr SP for?

Classic Rifle Hunters — Needs a purpose-built 7.65x53mm Argentine hunting round that delivers reliable terminal expansion on medium-to-large game using a 174-grain .313 in diameter pointed soft point bullet at ranges up to 250 metres.
Vintage Military Surplus Shooters — Requires factory-new 7.65x53mm Argentine rifle ammunition supplied in a 20-round box featuring boxer-primed, reloadable brass cases for historic rifles such as the Argentine Model 1891 and 1909 Mausers.

Less suitable for: Firearms chambered in .308 Winchester, 7.62x54mmR, or standard 8x57mm IS chambers, which require calibre-matched factory ammunition; hunting beyond the 0–250 metre velocity threshold for reliable soft-point expansion, which is better served by high-velocity, high-BC boat-tail cartridges; or hunting in reserves requiring non-lead ammunition, which require monolithic solid copper projectiles.
