Can I use the Norma 338 Win Mag 225gr FMJ for hunting medium-to-large game like sambar or red deer?

No, this ammunition features a non-expanding Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) projectile and is strictly engineered for target practice, zeroing, and match training. It is unsuitable for humane big-game hunting because it lacks expansion and hydraulic shock; you should use an expanding soft-point or bonded bullet like the Norma Oryx for game harvesting.

What is the ballistically recommended zero distance for the Norma 338 Win Mag 225gr Jaktmatch?

The factory-recommended Most Recommended Distance (MRD) zero for this 225gr FMJ round is 167 metres (184 yards) when fired from a 660 mm (26-inch) test barrel. At this zero, the ammunition achieves a muzzle velocity of 815 m/s (2,674 fps) and is designed to closely match the trajectory of Norma's premium big-game hunting rounds.

What are the legal requirements for purchasing and transporting this ammunition in Australia?

As centrefire rifle ammunition, it is classified as Category B across all Australian states and territories. To purchase it from XHunter, you must present a valid state-issued Firearms Licence with a Category B endorsement, and all sales must comply with local identification, recording, and transport protocols for dangerous goods.

Are the brass cases on the Norma 338 Win Mag Jaktmatch suitable for handloading?

Yes, these rounds are manufactured using Norma's premium virgin brass cases equipped with Boxer primers. Reloaders widely prize Norma brass for its excellent longevity, consistent case wall thickness, and reliable performance across multiple reloading cycles.

Who is the Norma Jaktmatch .338 Win Mag 225gr FMJ for?

Hunters practicing with .338 Winchester Magnum rifles — delivers an 815 m/s muzzle velocity and matching flight profiles to simulate premium big-game loads during sight-in and field drills without firing costly expanding bullets.
Target shooters seeking match-grade grouping consistency — uses a heavy 225-grain projectile with a 0.499 G1 ballistic coefficient and uniform virgin brass cases for consistent external ballistics out to 300 metres.

Less suitable for: Harvesting medium-to-large game such as sambar, red deer, or feral pigs due to the non-expanding 225gr Full Metal Jacket bullet design; choose expanding hunting ammunition such as bonded soft-point or polymer-tipped big-game cartridges instead. Strictly incompatible with firearms chambered outside of .338 Winchester Magnum.
