Can I use S&B Sellier & Bellot 38 Special 158 Grain FMJ ammunition in my .357 Magnum revolver?

Yes, this ammunition is fully compatible with both .38 Special and .357 Magnum chambers. The standard-pressure 158 grain load operates safely in any serviceable firearm chambered for these calibres.

Are these S&B 38 Special cartridges suitable for indoor shooting ranges?

Yes, they feature a full metal jacket enclosing the lead core, which prevents barrel leading and significantly reduces airborne lead exposure. This design makes them well-suited for indoor ranges that restrict exposed-lead round nose ammunition.

What kind of accuracy and effective range can I expect from the S&B V311412 ammunition in a handgun versus a carbine?

This standard-pressure load achieves a muzzle velocity of approximately 889 fps and a muzzle energy of 277 ft-lbs from a 7.5-inch test barrel. Its effective precision range is typically limited to 0 to 50 metres for handguns and extends out to 100 metres when fired from a pistol-calibre carbine.

Is the brass casing on this S&B 38 Special ammo reloadable?

Yes, the ammunition is built using standard Boxer-primed, reloadable brass cases. This allows sports shooters and competitors to easily collect and reload their spent casings after a range session.

38 Special Ammo - Sellier and Bellot V311412

The Sellier & Bellot .38 Special FMJ 158 Grain Ammunition (model V311412) is a standard-pressure target cartridge engineered for consistent range training and sport shooting. Manufactured with a 158 gr (10.25 g) CuZn 30 copper-zinc jacketed bullet and lead core, this ammunition eliminates barrel leading and reduces airborne lead emissions in enclosed facilities. The non-corrosive, Boxer-primed brass cases provide dependable ignition and uniform cycling across both .38 Special and .357 Magnum chambers, delivering a muzzle velocity of 271 m/s (approximately 889 fps) and 376 Joules (approximately 277 ft-lbs) of muzzle energy from a 190 mm test barrel.

Key Features

Reloadable Brass Cases: High-grade Boxer-primed cartridge brass allows for straightforward case collection and handloading.
Balanced Ballistics: Produces a calculated power factor of approximately 140.5 kgr·fps with a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.184 and a sectional density of 0.177 lb/in².
Flat Trajectory Within Operating Distances: Factory zeroed at 25 metres, yielding an impact drop of -7.2 cm at 50 metres and -49.5 cm at 100 metres.
Packaging: Supplied in compact 50-round boxes measuring 117.5 × 61.5 × 40.5 mm and weighing approximately 0.82 kg.

Who is the S&B Sellier & Bellot 38 Special 158 Grain Fmj Ammo 50 Rd for?

Indoor range target shooters — requires full-jacketed projectiles to comply with indoor air-quality rules and prevent barrel leading, utilizing this 38 Special FMJ ammunition's enclosed 158 grain bullet to maintain precision across standard handgun firing distances of 0 to 50 metres.
Service revolver and cowboy action competitors — benefits from consistent factory loading that produces a stable 889 fps muzzle velocity and standard-pressure 277 ft-lbs muzzle energy, supplying the recoil manageability and minimum power factor compliance required for match strings.

Less suitable for: Shooters requiring high velocities above 950 to 1,000+ fps or rapid expansion for medium-to-large game hunting, where this non-expanding full metal jacket load is ineffective; these applications require higher-velocity +P rated ammunition, full magnum cartridges, or expanding semi-jacketed soft point (SJSP) and hollow-point projectiles.
