Can I use the S&B 180 Grain FMJ .308 ammunition for hunting deer and medium game in Australia?

No, this ammunition features a Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) projectile which does not expand on impact. In Australia, state game regulations prohibit using non-expanding FMJ bullets for hunting medium-to-large game to ensure ethical and humane harvests. You should instead select an expanding soft-point or polymer-tipped projectile like the S&B SP or PTS lines for hunting applications.

Are these S&B .308 Winchester cases reloadable for handloading enthusiasts?

Yes, this ammunition is manufactured with high-quality, reloadable factory brass casings featuring Boxer primers and non-corrosive powder. This makes them a cost-effective option for shooters who prefer to process and reload their own brass after range sessions.

What barrel twist rate is recommended to stabilize the heavier 180-grain projectile in this S&B load?

The heavier 180-grain projectile performs best in barrels featuring a 1:10 or 1:11 twist rate. Shooters using older or slower twist rates, such as 1:12 or higher, will generally achieve better stabilization and tighter groups with lighter 147 to 150-grain ammunition.

What are the regulatory requirements for purchasing and receiving this ammunition in Australia?

Due to strict Australian firearms legislation, centerfire ammunition cannot be delivered directly to residential doorsteps. Customers must possess a valid Category B firearms licence, and orders must be collected in-store or transferred securely through a licensed firearms dealer (LFD).

Who is the S&B Sellier & Bellot 308 Win 180 Grain Fmj Ammo 50 Rd for?

High-volume range training and target shooters — provides reliable cycling in bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles with 50 rounds per box of .308 Winchester target rifle ammunition, delivering a consistent muzzle velocity of 735 m/s for repeatable range sessions.
Tactical and competition discipline shooters — requires consistent recoil impulse and flat shooting across intermediate stages, which this .308 Winchester target rifle ammunition supplies through a heavy 180-grain projectile delivering 3,160 Joules of muzzle energy.

Less suitable for: Medium-to-large game hunting where non-expanding FMJ projectiles do not provide ethical terminal cavitation and violate state game regulations (requiring expanding soft-point or polymer-tipped hunting ammunition), extreme long-range disciplines past 500 metres (where boat-tail hollow-point match ammunition provides tighter grouping), or rifles with slower 1:12" twist barrels that cannot adequately stabilise 180-grain projectiles (which perform better with lighter 147–150 grain loads).
