What rings are required to mount the Sightron SI G2 3-9x40mm riflescope onto my hunting rifle in Australia?

This riflescope features a standard 1-inch main tube diameter, meaning it is fully compatible with standard 1-inch mounting rings designed for Weaver or Picatinny rails. Ensure you select ring heights appropriate for your rifle and 40mm objective lens to achieve a proper cheek weld.

How does this scope perform during long mobile hunting trips in hot Australian bush conditions?

Weighing only 13.6 ounces, the SI G2 is specifically optimised for all-day walking and stalking where minimising rifle heft is critical. It is built with an O-ring sealed IPX7 waterproof body and nitrogen purging, ensuring reliable fogproof and waterproof performance when moving through humid or wet outback environments.

Does this Sightron riflescope require any electrical safety compliance or SAA/RCM certification in Australia?

No electrical compliance is required because this product is a purely mechanical, passive optical sight with no electronics, illuminated reticles, batteries, or charging systems. It operates entirely without mains power and is exempt from ACMA RCM or SAA regulations.

Is this scope suitable for extended long-range target shooting beyond 400 metres?

No, this model features a fixed 100-yard parallax setting and a simple, non-illuminated Duplex reticle with capped hunting turrets. It is optimized for short- to medium-range hunting up to roughly 300 metres, whereas extended long-range target work requires adjustable parallax and exposed target turrets found on specialised long-range lines.

3-9x40mm Riflescope - Sightron SI-32001

The Sightron Si G2 Series 3-9x40mm Riflescope is a variable-power optical sight engineered for short- to medium-range field hunting and daylight target shooting. Built around a 1-inch one-piece aircraft-grade aluminium main tube, this second focal plane (SFP) scope features high-grade all-glass lenses treated with proprietary MC-333 fully multi-coated surfaces to maximise light transmission and mitigate flare. Housed in a compact 11.9-inch (302 mm) body, it utilizes capped hunting turrets with 1/4 MOA click values and a standard Duplex reticle to provide a dependable, passive aiming solution on centrefire and rimfire rifles.

Key Features

MC-333 Multi-Coated Optics: Fully multi-coated all-glass lens system reduces glare and optimises light transmission across variable 3–9x magnification settings.
Precision Focus Eyepiece: Features a smooth-adjusting diopter ring and provides a generous eye relief range of 3.3 to 4.1 inches (83.8 to 104.1 mm).
Capped Hunting Turrets: Finger-adjustable 1/4 MOA click adjustments deliver 15 MOA per rotation across 70 MOA of total windage and elevation adjustment travel.
Ruggedised Housing: Nitrogen-purged and O-ring sealed to an IPX7 waterproof standard (submersible to 1 metre for 30 minutes) with a 1,000G shock rating to withstand heavy centrefire recoil.
Wide Field of View: Delivers a linear field of view ranging from 40.4 feet at 3x down to 13.3 feet at 9x at 100 yards.

Who is the Sightron Si G2 Series 3-9x40mm Riflescope With Duplex Reticle, ¼ Moa Clicks, Second Focal Plane, 1" Tube for?

General-purpose field hunters — requires a lightweight variable hunting riflescope with a 40 mm objective lens and 3–9x magnification that provides a 40.4-foot field of view at 100 yards for fast target acquisition on deer, feral pigs, and goats.
Mobile walking and stalking shooters — benefits from a compact 1-inch tube riflescope weighing just 13.6 oz (~385.5 g) that keeps overall rifle heft minimal over long days on foot while providing precise 1/4 MOA click adjustments.

Less suitable for: Target shooting past 300 to 400 metres, where a fixed 100-yard parallax and simple non-magnifying Duplex reticle introduce optical error; shooters engaging targets beyond these distances need a long-range scope featuring adjustable parallax, exposed elevation turrets, and holdover reticle subtensions. It is equally unsuited for precision rimfire or airgun target work inside 25 to 50 metres, which requires an optic equipped with an adjustable objective or side-focus parallax dial down to short yardages.
