SportEAR XP Defender Ear Plugs literally let you control your auditory environment with the push of a button. A special valve inside the noise filter can be opened or closed by pushing the button on the external end of the ear plug - no need to take the ear plugs out. This lets you switch between hearing normally, and blocking out sound.

When the valve is open, you can hear about as well as you could without any ear plugs in your ears at all (NRR 10). When an impact noise occurs, however, the internal disc and mesh inside the filter react, blocking out noise with NRR 18 protection against harmful sound. That means you can maintain your situational awareness and hear voices and other safe sounds clearly, while still staying safe from sudden impact noises.

When the valve is closed, you are protected from noise. That NRR 18 protection is applied constantly, providing extremely good noise blocking. Impulse noises are still blocked, but so are constant noises, such as traffic, snoring, a noisy crowd, voices, music, and virtually any other irritating, disturbing, or unwanted sound.
