The Norma Oryx .308 Winchester 165gr Bonded Soft Point ammunition is engineered for medium to large game hunting. Featuring a molecularly fused copper jacket and lead core, the Oryx projectile eliminates core-jacket separation on impact, delivering rapid, controlled mushrooming and residual weight retention of up to 99%. Tested from a standard 610 mm (24-inch) barrel, this factory-loaded centerfire ammunition generates a muzzle velocity of 835 m/s (2,740 fps) and a muzzle energy of 3,730 Joules (2,749 ft-lbs), maintaining 1,831 Joules of terminal energy at 300 metres.

Key Features

• Bonded Core Construction: The lead core is chemically bonded to the copper jacket to prevent separation when encountering dense muscle tissue or heavy bone.
• High Weight Retention: Retains up to 99% of its original 165-grain weight under standard hunting conditions to maximize penetration depth.
• Ballistic Profile: Engineered with a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.333 and a factory most recommended distance (MRD) zero of 165 metres.
• Downrange Performance: Delivers velocities of 746 m/s at 100 m, 663 m/s at 200 m, and 585 m/s at 300 m.
• Packaging: Supplied in standard boxes of 20 rounds.

Who is the Norma Oryx .308 Win 165gr for?

• Medium to large game hunters — Targets game such as fallow deer, red deer, sambar, and feral pigs with a .308 Winchester rifle, utilizing a 165-grain bonded projectile that leaves the muzzle at 835 m/s to ensure deep penetration.
• Hunters operating within 300 metres — Requires reliable terminal expansion and energy transfer inside moderate ranges, relying on a 0.333 G1 ballistic coefficient profile that delivers 1,831 Joules of energy at 300 metres.

Less suitable for: Long-range shooting past 300 to 400 metres, where high-BC polymer-tipped hunting cartridges are better suited, or dangerous heavy game hunting, which exceeds the energy envelope of this standard .308 Winchester load and requires large-calibre magnum ammunition.
