The Norma Oryx Silencer Series .308 Winchester 165gr Bonded Soft Point (Model 20177302) is specialized hunting ammunition engineered specifically for compact, short-barrel rifles and suppressed platforms. Utilizing a proprietary fast-burning powder blend, this cartridge achieves a complete powder burn inside shorter barrels, generating a factory muzzle velocity of 820 m/s (2,690 fps) and 3,597 Joules of muzzle energy from a 500 mm (20 in) test barrel. This complete internal combustion reduces unburned powder, mitigates muzzle flash signature, and lowers erosive gas pressure against suppressor baffles. Built with a chemically bonded core-jacket design, the Oryx projectile delivers rapid, controlled expansion while retaining 90% to 99% of its residual weight upon impact.

Key Features

• Short-Barrel Optimization: Loaded with fast-burning powder engineered to reach full burn and terminal velocity in barrels measuring 500 mm (20 in) down to 16 inches.
• Bonded Oryx Bullet Construction: Chemically bonded lead core and jacket prevent jacket separation and preserve 90% to 99% weight retention for deep penetration.
• Reduced Blast and Flash: Minimizes muzzle flash and gas blast outside the crown, protecting suppressor baffles and preserving night-adjusted vision.
• Distinct Dark Grey Brass: Treated with a dark grey chemical finish for immediate visual identification from standard factory ammunition lines.
• Standard Australian Compliance: Requires a valid Australian Category B firearms licence (or state equivalent) for purchase and possession.

Who is the Norma 308 Win 165gr Oryx Silencer 20 Pack for?

• Hunters using short-barrel bush rifles with 16 to 20 inch barrels — achieves a full 820 m/s muzzle velocity from compact setups without the velocity loss or excessive muzzle flash typical of standard factory ammunition.
• Hunters targeting medium to large game like feral pigs and deer — delivers controlled expansion and high weight retention using a 165-grain bonded soft point projectile with a 0.333 G1 ballistic coefficient to maintain 2,240 Joules of energy at 200 metres.

Less suitable for: Long-range hunting beyond 400 metres where a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.333 experiences rapid velocity drop below 570 m/s (use high-BC, streamlined long-range hunting ammunition instead), or standard rifles with barrel lengths exceeding 610 mm / 24 inches (use standard-powder commercial hunting cartridges instead).
