The Sellier & Bellot Fortuna 12/70 (Model V103952) is a field-hunting 12-gauge shotshell engineered for medium winged game and small ground pests. Loaded with a 36 g payload of 3.0 mm lead shot (UK #4 / US #5), this cartridge provides dense downrange pattern coverage and high pellet energy. It operates at an instrumental velocity rating of 385 m/s ($V_2$), housed in a 70 mm (2¾") plastic hull featuring a 12.5 mm brass-plated steel head, a plastic wad, and a 6-point crimp closure.

Key Features

• Heavy Field Payload: Delivers a 36 g lead shot charge to produce high pellet counts and dense pattern distribution compared to standard 28 g or 32 g loads.
• Balanced Pellet Sizing: Features 3.0 mm shot diameter (UK #4 / US #5), bridging the gap between light birdshot and heavy pest loads.
• Consistent Downrange Velocity: Achieves a muzzle velocity of 385 m/s ($V_2$) for reliable kinetic energy transfer across standard field distances.
• Standard Chamber Compatibility: Built on a 70 mm (2¾") hull with a 12.5 mm brass-plated steel head, functioning in modern 70 mm, 76 mm (3"), and 89 mm (3½") shotgun chambers.

Who is the S&B Fortuna 12 Gauge 2¾" 3.0mm 36g Ammo for?

• Upland bird hunters — relies on the 36 g payload and 3.0 mm shot to generate the pattern density and striking energy required for medium game birds such as pheasants within 20 m to 40 m field distances using this 12-gauge shotshell.
• Waterfowl hunters in lead-permitted zones — utilises the 385 m/s muzzle velocity and 3.0 mm pellet size for taking duck over decoys in jurisdictions and private properties where lead ammunition is legally authorized.
• Small ground game and pest controllers — requires the 36 g lead load and 3.0 mm shot diameter to deliver high kinetic impact for humane dispatch of hares and rabbits at typical field ranges up to 40 m.

Less suitable for: Long-range shooting beyond 45 m, where velocity and pattern density decrease (requiring heavier 40g+ semi-magnum loads or larger BB shot), hunting in Australian public wetlands where lead shot is prohibited (requiring non-toxic steel, bismuth, or tungsten shotshells), or vintage shotguns with chambers shorter than 70 mm (requiring dedicated 65 mm / 2½" low-pressure cartridges).
