Is the S&B .45 Colt 230 Grain FMJ safe to use in authentic vintage 1873-pattern revolvers and modern reproductions?

Yes, this ammunition is loaded to standard SAAMI and CIP pressure limits as a non-+P factory load. This makes it safe for use in authentic vintage 1873-pattern revolvers, Colt Single Action Army revolvers, modern reproductions from manufacturers like Uberti and Pietta, and lever-action rifles chambered in .45 Colt.

What kind of trajectory drop can I expect out of this 230 Grain FMJ round at distances beyond 50 metres?

While zeroed around 25 metres with a muzzle velocity of 251 m/s, the round experiences a trajectory drop of -8.6 cm at 50 metres and drops significantly by -57.8 cm at 100 metres. Due to this steep drop and low velocity, precision target shooting beyond 50 to 75 metres is impractical.

Are electrical safety standards or SAA/RCM certifications applicable to this S&B ammunition in Australia?

No, electrical standards such as 240V compatibility, AS/NZS electrical safety, and SAA/RCM approvals do not apply since this is conventional non-electric chemical ammunition. Australian purchases and storage are instead strictly governed by state and territory firearms legislation, requiring an appropriate firearms licence with verified calibre authority.

Can I use this full metal jacket ammunition for medium game hunting or pest control in the field?

No, this product uses a solid, non-expanding Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) projectile designed specifically for range training, target practice, and cowboy action shooting. It lacks terminal expansion and is not ethically recommended or designed for hunting or pest control applications.

.45 Colt Ammo - Sellier Bellot V311762

The Sellier & Bellot .45 Colt 230 Grain FMJ (Product Code: V311762) is a factory-loaded centreburst cartridge engineered for target practice, range training, and historical shooting disciplines. Built to standard SAAMI and CIP operating pressures, it features a 230-grain non-expanding Full Metal Jacket projectile with a lead core and CuZn 10 brass jacket. The round produces a muzzle velocity of 251 m/s (823 fps) and a muzzle energy of 469 Joules from a 102 mm test barrel. Loaded into reloadable, Boxer-primed brass cases with non-corrosive primers, this ammunition delivers clean-burning performance across authentic vintage 1873-pattern revolvers, modern single-action reproductions, and .45 Colt lever-action rifles.

Who is the S&B Sellier & Bellot 45 Colt 230 Grain Fmj Ammo 50 Rd for?

Cowboy action shooting competitors — Standard-pressure factory loading delivers a manageable 251 m/s muzzle velocity and a 230-grain FMJ bullet profile that functions smoothly across single-action revolvers without the bore fouling associated with unjacketed lead.
Handgun and lever-action rifle target shooters — Provides consistent 25-metre factory zeroing and reliable cycling in 45 Colt handgun ammunition chambers, supplied in a 50-round box format ideal for paper target training within typical 12.5 m to 50 m club ranges.

Less suitable for: Target engagements beyond 75 metres, where the cartridge's low 251 m/s velocity produces a steep -57.8 cm trajectory drop at 100 metres (better suited to higher-velocity, flat-shooting rifle calibres), or hunting applications requiring terminal expansion, which instead require jacketed hollow-point (JHP) or wide flat-nose lead hunting ammunition.
