Sellier & Bellot 7.62×54 R SP 180 Grain Centerfire Rifle Ammunition delivers controlled expansion and deep terminal penetration for hunting medium-to-large game using rifles chambered in 7.62×54mmR. Engineered with a semi-jacketed soft point bullet featuring an exposed lead core and a drawn gilding-metal jacket, this factory load produces predictable mushrooming while retaining mass on impact. Rated at a muzzle velocity of 800 m/s and generating 3,744 J of muzzle energy from a 730 mm test barrel, it provides an ethical hunting alternative to standard military surplus full metal jacket ammunition.

Key Features

• Controlled Terminal Expansion: The blunt, semi-jacketed soft point bullet expands reliably on impact while the jacket ensures structural retention for deep penetration on feral pigs and deer.
• Clean-Firing Construction: Features non-corrosive Boxer primers and reloadable brass casings, avoiding the corrosive residue typical of military surplus rounds and simplifying bore maintenance.
• Optimal Medium-Range Ballistics: Designed with a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.305 and G7 of 0.153, providing consistent trajectory and effective terminal performance across standard hunting distances of 0 to 250 metres.
• Platform Specificity: Engineered specifically for 7.62×54mmR platforms, including Mosin-Nagant 91/30, M38, M44, SV-98, Dragunov SVD, and Tigr sporting rifles.

Who is the S&B Sellier & Bellot 7.62x54r Russian 180 Grain Sp Ammo 20 Rd for?

• Mosin-Nagant and Dragunov rifle owners hunting feral pigs and deer — delivers 3,744 J of muzzle energy and controlled mushrooming from an exposed lead tip, giving 7.62x54r soft point ammunition the terminal impact required for ethical harvesting without military FMJ over-penetration.
• Hunters requiring non-corrosive, reloadable brass ammunition for 7.62x54r platforms — provides factory-fresh Boxer-primed brass cases launching a 180 gr projectile at 800 m/s, eliminating corrosive barrel fouling and enabling subsequent handloading.

Less suitable for: Target shooting or hunting beyond 300 metres, where rapid energy and velocity decay from the 0.305 G1 ballistic coefficient make a boat-tail match round or higher-BC polymer-tipped cartridge better suited; strictly incompatible with firearms chambered in other calibres, including 7.62×39mm, 7.62×51mm (.308 Win), or .303 British.
