The Sellier & Bellot 6.5x55 SE SP 156 gr (model V330612) is a factory-loaded centrefire sporting cartridge engineered for medium-to-large game hunting. Featuring a heavy-for-calibre 156-grain (10.10 g) semi-jacketed soft point bullet, it combines an exposed lead core with a precision-drawn copper-alloy jacket to deliver controlled expansion, high weight retention, and deep penetration on heavy-boned game. The load produces a factory-tested muzzle velocity of 723 m/s (2,372 fps) and 2,640 Joules of muzzle energy from a 600 mm barrel, with an overall cartridge length of 75.30 mm. Packaged with reloadable Boxer-primed brass cases, it is optimized for typical hunting engagements within 200 metres.

Key Features

• Heavy-for-Calibre Soft Point Design: Combines an exposed lead tip and drawn jacket to initiate dependable, uniform mushrooming while retaining structural integrity upon impact.
• High Sectional Density: A sectional density of 0.320 lb/in² ensures straight-line, deep penetration through hide and heavy bone.
• Reloadable Factory Brass: Loaded into standard Boxer-primed, non-corrosive brass casings suited for field use and subsequent handloading.
• Optimized Ballistics: Delivers a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.456 and a G7 ballistic coefficient of 0.230, calibrated for a 150-metre recommended zero distance.

Who is the S&B Sellier & Bellot 6.5x55 SE 156 Grain SP Ammo 20 D for?

• Medium-to-large game deer hunters — Requires maximum terminal penetration on red, fallow, chital, and rusa deer, delivered by this 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser soft point ammunition via an exceptionally high sectional density of 0.320 lb/in² to punch through dense bone and muscle.
• Feral pig and goat hunters using traditional 6.5x55 rifles — Relies on a moderate 723 m/s muzzle velocity and a heavy 156-grain projectile to generate 2,640 Joules of energy for clean, controlled expansion on tough feral game at woodland stalking distances.

Less suitable for: Extended-range hunting exceeding 300 metres where bullet drop increases significantly, or for rifles with slow twist barrels that fail to stabilize a 156-grain projectile weight; lighter, faster-stepping 120-grain to 140-grain aerodynamic tipped hunting cartridges are better suited to long-range trajectories and slower barrel twists.
