The Sellier & Bellot Fortuna 12 Gauge 2¾" (12x70) 36g ammunition (model V103992) is a heavy-payload European shotgun cartridge engineered for medium game and invasive pest eradication. Loaded with a 36 g (approx. 1¼ oz) payload of 4.0 mm lead shot (classified as UK #BB or US #1), this cartridge achieves a muzzle velocity of 385 m/s (1,263 fps). Featuring a plastic cup wad to maintain consistent patterns while preventing barrel lead fouling, it is built with a 12.5 mm brass head and a 6-point star crimp to ensure positive feeding and extraction across break-action, pump-action, and semi-automatic platforms.

Key Features

• Heavy Lead Payload: Delivers 36 g of 4.0 mm diameter lead shot (UK #BB / US #1) for high downrange energy transfer between 25 m and 45 m.
• Muzzle Velocity: Propels pellets at 385 m/s to provide consistent flight characteristics and penetration on medium-sized targets.
• Plastic Shot Cup Wad: Protects the barrel bore from leading and keeps the shot pattern consolidated downrange.
• Reliable Cycling: Utilises a 12.5 mm brass collar on a ribbed plastic hull with a folded star crimp for dependable ignition and cycling.
• Standard Chamber Length: Sized at 70 mm (2¾") for use in any standard modern 12-gauge shotgun chambered 70 mm or longer.

Who is the S&B Fortuna 12 Gauge 36g 4.0mm BB Ammo for?

• Feral fox and pest hunters at intermediate ranges — requires the 385 m/s muzzle velocity and 36 g payload of 4.0 mm lead shot to deliver lethal terminal impact on feral foxes and feral cats between 25 m and 45 m using 12-gauge hunting shotgun ammunition.
• Hunters targeting hares and medium pest animals — benefits from the dense pattern and impact energy of a 36 g charge containing 4.0 mm diameter pellets, which provides clean dispatch without the pattern dispersion seen in smaller birdshot sizes.

Less suitable for: legacy shotguns chambered for short 65 mm or 67.5 mm chambers where a 70 mm unfolded hull creates unsafe pressures; small upland birds and clay targets where lighter 24 g to 28 g loads in fine shot sizes (#7.5 to #9) are required; and large game such as wild pigs, deer, or wild dogs where heavier 00/SG buckshot or solid slugs are necessary for sufficient penetration.
